Meet Chris Lautsbaugh
With over 30 years in ministry as a pastor, Bible teacher, and overseas missionary, Chris Lautsbaugh brings a wealth of experience and Biblical wisdom to those facing personal, ministry, or cross-cultural challenges. His passion lies in helping others deeply understand God’s grace and discover their true identity in Christ. Married to his wife Lindsey for 22 years, Chris is a devoted father to two sons—one biological and one adopted. In his free time, Chris enjoys sports, cycling, and finding creative ways to explore the world on a budget.
In Death of the Modern SuperHero, Chris Lautsbaugh dismantles the exhausting myth that Christians must live like spiritual superheroes—always strong, always “on,” always climbing the ladder of performance. Drawing from his own journey, vivid illustrations, and Scripture, he shows how our attempts to impress God with our best efforts end up as nothing more than “skubalon”—Paul’s raw Greek word for rubbish, even dung. The book invites readers to lay down the cape, admit weakness, and face the reality that striving leaves us burned out, while grace turns the whole system upside down.
Through stories, humor, and theology made practical, Lautsbaugh paints a picture of grace that is big enough for both our failures and our longing for holiness. He explores how sin, salvation, and sanctification weave together—not as a checklist of do’s and don’ts, but as a relationship with a God who is good, present, and powerful. In the end, we discover that Christ is the true Superhero, and the freedom we crave comes not from pretending to be invincible, but from resting in the grace that has already rescued us.
